Oly Hemmings and Pete Creech have combined their natural history knowledge to provide a face-to-face wildlife interpretation service.  Housed in a 400-year-old farmhouse, the Argyll Beaver Centre is a base for guided-walks and events, a source of information on the area’s wildlife and an education centre.  We are a window into the Knapdale world of red squirrels, ravens, pine martens, beavers, ospreys and otters as well as the infinite variety of plant, lichen and bryophyte species to be found in Argyll’s temperate rainforest.

Wildlife walks and events include the ever-popular guided beaver walks, seashore safaris, bat evenings, moth mornings and pond-dipping.

The visitor centre features hands-on displays, a wildlife feeding station (and hide from 2021), children’s activities, gift shop, compost loo with baby-changing and disabled facilities, car-park with access to walking trails and viewpoint.

Located within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a National Scenic Area (NSA) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).  Nearby are two National Nature Reserves (NNR) and a Marine Protected Area (MPA).

The unique nature of Knapdale with its long sea and freshwater lochs bisecting the ridges (knaps) in between has given rise to stunningly beautiful peninsulas cloaked in Atlantic Oak Woodland. Their very own rainforest!

The centre is open free of charge to visitors and welcome school and community groups, offering formal and informal education sessions tailor made to your areas of interest.  As a community resource they are also able to host groups for functions and events at a unique, wholly off-grid centre in the heart of Argyll.

Heart of Argyll Wildlife are a Visit Scotland Visitor Information Point and are World Host qualified.
